Alexian Wines, a former White House staffer dropped in to visit around students and staff at City of Oxford College. 听
Alexian has held various prestigious roles during her careers. These include working under former President Clinton and President George W. Bush, took time to come to the college to speak to more than 90 students.听 听
Alexian, who听is听currently听Chief Operating Officer at听BowerGroupAsia听(BGA), a government affairs, strategic advisory, and public policy consulting firm,听spoke for 45 minutes during her session, titled听鈥楩rom adversity to the White House and beyond听– and the lessons along the way!鈥�听
An inspiring careers talk
Sadie听Coles,听Level 3听Media听student at City of Oxford College, said:听“I thought it was really inspiring, as it shows you behind the scenes of how people got to where they are today and that your background doesn鈥檛 always define who you are and how your future will plan out.听
鈥淚 thought that it was quite motivating where she听said,听鈥榶our words matter鈥� and that it is true, that what you say to people听sticks, and that was quite eye opening for me.听听
鈥淲hat was also听really nice is that you can think you have all the money in the听world,听and you can get somewhere but if you don鈥檛 have the motivation then you听won’t听get anywhere in the long run.鈥�听
Following her introduction, Alexian听addressed听perceptions听of others, focusing on the difference between biographies versus the 鈥榬eal鈥� person.听听
Cat Marin,听Group Director of听Group Director of听Strategy听and Innovation听at 每日探花 said: 鈥淎lexian was fabulous; she was able to capture the highs and lows of her life and pinpoint those ‘crucible moments’ in such a relatable way.听听

Planning for the future
Gary Force, Media tutor at City of Oxford College, said: 鈥淚 had just come from a session about planning for the future in terms of careers and Alexian mirrored a point I had made earlier in the day about the importance of failing.听听
鈥淔ailing is not something to be feared but something to be learned from and used, in that sense she was very inspirational.鈥�听
She covered a range of personal aspects of her life and how they affected her professional development and personal growth.听
